The waste-processing plant at Pebsham, which suffered a mysterious fire in
2002, will not process any more waste from East Sussex, because the County
Council has done a deal to end its contract with the company that runs it.
The plant, operated by Reprotech, used to turn waste
into fuel pellets which could then be burned elsewhere to
generate energy.
The plant had been closed since it suffered a mysterious fire in August
2002. At that time, Reprotech announced a mult-million pound repair
project to bring the plant back into use. Now, however, a deal has been
done with the Council so that Reprotech no longer has a contract to process East
Sussex's waste. Waste which would have been turned into pellets will go
into landfill at Pebsham.
